Our club got it's humble start in a garage heated by a barrel stove near Blandin Beach on the west side of town. Six members gathered to make their flying plans. Their flying fields consisted of vacant lots and the 7th hole of the local golf course. "We only flew when the golfers could not be seen in any direction.", says original member, Doug Kelk.
Membership grew to 12 with 2 instructors and began to fly behind the Pincherry Lodge on the south side of Bass Lake. Soon after, the group organized as the Itasca R/C Association and obtained a lease for the acreage on Rangeline Road where the field is located today.
Many hours were spent by members removing stones and boulders and doing fine grading to create a smooth surface for the model aircraft to land and take off.
Over the years, membership has grown to as many as 50. The field has also grown with the addition of a fence, sheds and a sun shade. It is a meeting place for members, their families and spectators alike.
